Creativity mixed with dentistry. Case report by Dr Azhar Chisti

Mrs Khateeja alam entered my clinic with a metal free ceramic crown in her hand and a fractured lateral incisor.

This was one of those cases where a practioner has to move out of copy books a step ahead, to do something new for the betterment of the patient

The ideal treatment plan for this case was a "post and core" followed by a new crown.
Now that patient had already invested lot many dollars just a few months back she didn't want to invest in a new crown.

Finally I decided to place a post ( A small metallic or fibre pin like structure which is placed inside the root of the tooth and adhered there) and the core ( the artificial crown part of the tooth which was fractured) was made accurately to the size and shape of the original tooth so that the same crown could be placed.

PROCEDURE: After sucessfully placing the post, a cellophane was placed into the crown and core build-up material was forced into and over the cellophane and the whole thing was placed onto the post.
Crown was easily removed and cellophane was also peeled off. Little finishing of the new buildup was done and the artificial tooth was ready for the old crown.
